The Bukkit team joins Mojang

Bukkit Symbol

Today is a good day for Minecraft players everywhere, why is that you might ask?  Well today Mojang and the Bukkit team announced that they have joined together.  Earlier today EvilSeph of the Bukkit project made a post outlining the Bukkit project, where it started, and where it is going, finishing off this, he announced that as of today, February 28, 2012, the Bukkit team is joining the Mojang team.

The Bukkit team has been tasked with creating the official Minecraft API, which is a task well suited for them.  There may be some people feel that this is a loss due to the open source of Bukkit vs. the closed source of Mojang, however I think we have to look at this from another perspective, and that is the perspective of knowing we are getting a good product.  The Bukkit project has continually turned out a good modding API, and has apparently helped Mojang fix bugs within Minecraft itself (which is something I was not aware of before).  This announcement was also very good because Mojang (Jens specifically), mentioned that they would be helping get Bukkit updated to 1.2 which I know that many members of the community (myself included) were scared that the update to 1.2 might take a while due to all the new stuff being added.

So here’s a toast to the future, where the modders are free to code what they want in a game, where the server admins are able to customize the way their server acts, and where the players continue to love the game created by Mojang and the modding community.  Congratulations to the Bukkit team for creating a great product, I can’t wait to see what you come out with for the Official Minecraft API.  By the way Mojang, please work on your site, I get lots of 404 errors.
